Few observations:

1. You cant buy normal buillon from shops, its always with some weird spices (kasvisliemikuutioita? nope).

2. Finding a place is ridiculous. Really hard and expensive (just like me).

3. Cheese is good. Not as good as in France, but still good.

4. With all the weed smoking going on, one might think that there would be some quality tobacco being sold, but that is not the case. L&M going strong.

5. Coffee is as bad as in Finland.

6. Milk is worse.

7. Hot Dogs are allllright.

8. I'm hungry now.

Are you tired of the virtual space being controlled by geeks? So far the only sites where the decent citizens has been able to visit has been in the world of porn with the few exceptations of funny pictures or videos of drunkards. But now in the virtual desert of internet a new flower has bloomed, as my site is finally online. This means that there will be a new dimension to this blog also, as it can be finally used for the purpose the blog system was originally designed: telling subjective opinions as facts and gloating with ones superiour lifestyle, or those fucking fashion blogs written by blond bitches who hopefully end up homeless by 35. The only respectable form of blogging is an audio blog, keeping us posted of great music and giving it for us for free (the greatest is of course still awesomeatapesfromafrica if somebody has somehow still unaware of this).

So, let's go!

Chinese attack!

The Chinese attacked and hacked my email and deleted my blogspot. They proceeded to distribute communistic propaganda to every single contact I have in my email (which is quite a few), so if you are among the people who recieved pamflet about cheap pills, gaming consoles or other fundamental leftist propaganda in your mail, please accept my humble apology. Luckily I have some friends in VERY HIGH places in the soil of U.S., and they retrieved my blog and arrested 36 Chinese gypsy spys from Golden Dragon restaurant in North Ireland.

All is well again and there is peace in the world.

On the more positive note: after locking dozen geeks, five graphic designers, a monkey and a typewriter to my cellar, it seems that my website is finally going to be reality. Although I waited much more from this super-team fed by super food (a strict bacon diet), I think in the end it will be quite simple site. Among things, it includes buttons and pictures.

Also, next year I will likely to have something like 5 exhibitions, but more about those later. Now I'm tired of fighting the red devil and I must retreat to our mountain chateau.

Pekkanikkarinen is a new project from Admiral Appo and Midiskibis, newly-wed gentlemen from southern Finland with a background in the underground psytrance world. Here they proudly present the story-like Uni, an intricate 5 track mini-album co-released by People Of The Butterflies and Freudian Slip Records. This is the soundtrack to Unimaailma (Dreamworld), a play performed by the Finnish fire/fluoro dance group Revontuli. The music is creative and unpredictable, switching from broken beats and abstract experimental grooves to ripping Suomi-style psytrance before spiralling outward in a bewitching haze. Mastered by Wille Hermansson (Astroschnautzer) @ Freudian Slip Studios. Cover artwork by Design Kyklooppi & Ilona Illustrations.

Artist's statement (2007)

Even though I woke up late, as usual, I decided to brew some coffee before I was going start my journey to the metro station. Luckily my hours were flexible, although it would be all the same if I would come to work at twelve, since there wouldn't be anything going on before that anyways. At least nothing I would care about, thats for sure. I guess thats why I haven't held a real job for some years now.

After I got my gasoline down, I started my walk. In the escalator of the Speed Markets* metro station some really random looking junkie came trying to sell some meds to me. And if there's something that I can honestly say, it's that I seriously am not, nor look like, that kind of dude who would buy some sketchy pills from a metro station around ten in the morning. At any rate, I had to laugh inside that Helsinki had just become a bit more international, even if everywhere else the merchandise is something else than Xanors. Or whatever the fucking junk he was selling.

You know, I've gotten this feeling that those guys have seriously multiplied recently, junkies I mean. The amount of weekend warriors exploded ages ago, but I'm talking about those full time junk workers. And they've swarmed the Speed Market. Every time I see someone like him I hope that he would fall in love or something. Because there is always hope. It's an easy thing to forget, but there is. I guess the problem is that everything is always happening tomorrow, or at least in the future, things like my quitting of smoking and that jog of yours. When will we get there?

It's just that we humans are such a lazy, comfort seeking and ease lusting animals. Pretty fucking terrible beings, actually. And it's always easiest to fool one's self, and sometimes you don't even have to. Yes, I do know that the chicken from that thai-food joint is pretty damn unethically produced, but it is also pretty damn good. Fuck all I care about the ethics when that curry is melting in my mouth. Or when the plane is going down to some place where the drinks are being poured to a coconut. No one bloody cares about the situation of the world at that point. It is just so fucking awesome that everything is so cheap. I feel that most of the people don't even think to ask why? And who really picks up the tab from our globe hopping for example? Just a while ago the jet-setters where the only few who could fly around like that, at these days anyone of us can go online and click-click; fifty euros to London. I have nothing against internet though, it's pretty fucking amazing, the biggest thing in centuries. I am a bit scared about what's going to be the situation when I'm old though. I hope I won't be as lost as my parents are at the moment. On the other hand we grew up to this distance-less world, our parents are trying to hop onto a moving train in the halfway of the journey.

Also, did you know that magpie is the most intelligent bird? Think about it, a magpie, out of all birds! Not an owl, nor an eagle, but a goddamn magpie. Though it's not a surprise in a way, we humans are alike – always after something shiny that we even don't really need. But there is always hope, even for me. You just gotta keep on pushing, try your best, share the good and do something that fills some of that hole inside.

For me the fill is making art. Sometimes I feel like I'll never love any person as much as my creations. It's my way of clear all the things I've seen and gone through. Show things and tell stories, and believe me, those I've got plenty of. During my lifetime I've seen such strange extremes and wankers, that sometimes I've even had to pinch myself. I've seen what's the utmost rich and what's to be piss poor and how love twists through hate to the level of utter rage, that I've seen too. And experienced all kinds of shit from both ends.

To me it's not a bit strange that one's friends deal or take drugs, party like the tomorrow is just a sunny continuation to the party, or steal stuff just for the sake of it. It's all about freedom, or the lack of it. Or the twisted conditioned concept of freedom we've fed. Actually whatever the fuck is okay, as long as you don't hurt other people. Personally, I just care about making my art and trying to love in the process. All in all, I would guess my progression hasn't been exactly the average, but enough of this, it isn't suppose to be an autobiography, you know?

At the end of the day, all that stuff going in- and outside of my head ends up to my works. They are mostly paintings, but I always choose the format based on the idea or the concept, instead of trying to force everything to canvasses. It seems that I like to work serially, then when something is all chewed up, I'll move to the next one. Kind of like relationships. Often them ex-s don't feel so great afterwards, sometimes people even end up hating them. But like the old cliché goes: keep on moving, it ain't about the destination, but the travel. (2007)

Über Geneva Update!!

Wow, I finally took photos from my ateliee here in Geneva. Some of the pieces are finished, most are not. Sorry that the fotos are such a shitty quality, I had to take them with a small digital camera. Also the fact that I haven't made frames for the paintings reduces the pic quality even more, but I hate to do unnecessary work, so I'll frame 'em back home (if I feel like they need it). This is a small part of the stuff I've been working on.

Näin Reindeer Spottingin hengessä (joka on ainakin joskus nähdyn raakisversion perusteella todellakin katsomisen arvoinen leffa) pakko laittaa linjoille kohtalaisen diippii kamaa. Osasyynä on tietty se että en ole saanut vielä kuvattua mitään uusia duuneja.

Jok.tap. luin eilen jostain Suomalaisesta lehdestä uutisen MDPV nimisestä huumeesta (jonkinsortin tutkimuskemikaali) ja päädyin linkin linkin kautta päihdelinkin keskusteluun. Koska en ite ole ammattilaispiireissä pyörinyt (mitä nyt kattonut vierestä joidenkin frendien liigakiekkoa) niin toi keskustelu sai aikaan aikamoiset kelat. Mutta lukekaa itse, jengi on kohtalaisen syvällä pelissä... Toi saunaosasto on muutenkin aika kuumottavaa luettavaa.

Cheating.

It has come to my knowlegde through a hi-class surveillance system that there actually are some people who follow this thing, even on a daily basis! How cool is that? (it is like three thailandese hookers massaging my ego with a sponge filled with joy). Unfortunately I've had nothing to post for a while, partly due to that I've been painting some new stuff, and partly because I've been too lazy to finnish up the photography and video projects (but mostly because I've been painting).

Genevian Times.

I came back from Indos a while ago, it was a fun trip for sure! We shot a project with my friend Terjo Aaltonen in witch we followed the schenanigans of our Mexican wrestler friend called Super Jésus. The original idea was Terjos (clap-claps in here), and we ended up with a lot of interesting fotos. Unfortunately the speed of retouching is the standard Finnish/Kirkkonummi speed, so you'll have to wait for the set for a while. I'll also be posting my own set of photographic miracles as soon as I'll have it ready.

After returning from Asia I spent about a month in Finland, trying to catch up with few overdue projects. This time I actually managed to do it, and a video piece called LOL is very much bursting out in a time soon near you. I also got to live an spend some very nice moments with Mari and meet loads of friends (if you are reading this, all the best, you're the best!). We also released an album of psytrance, its free and you can get it here. Bechamel Boys, the most beautiful boyband in the world!

Now I'm in Geneva to do some studies, I'm planned to stay here for the next five months. Friends, you are welcome to visit anytime!

First I broke my installation day before the show. Next weekend my long planned shooting of a video project had to be cancelled since the fellow in the key position got sick.
These things happen, whatcha gonna do?
Actually I'm gonna heed the warning and screw this by going to Indonesia! So during 11.11 - 28.12 don't bother calling, I will be facing the waves armed only with my camera and trusty mates. This will also mark the beginning of a photography project called "Supercolor". I managed to buy the "best" point-and-shoot known to man, Contax T2, so next 1 1/2 months will be irresponsible shooting all the way to the equator sunrise...

Upcoming group exhibition - Avo 2009

I'm taking part in an annual group exhibition called Avo. The show will mainly take part in the Labour Museum of Tampere, but also spread in other spots around the city. My plan is to make an amazing installation into the museum. At the moment I have no certainty that my plan will actually work, so I'm kinda scared / stressed, but super excited at the same time. The opening will be 23.10 - so everyone should head to Tampere to drink free booze and gasp in the amazement (or if everything fails in my part, I will personally spend all available money I have to booze so you'll be drunk enough to forget why I asked you to come in the first place).
I'll post more info later as the website / invitations etc. are online.
Oh, and also I have been very productive during summer, so lot of updates and a website is coming as soon as aapo possible.

Art Veturit - taustaa and shait. fi / eng

Niille jotka eivät tiedä tästä proggiksesta, niin tässä vähän homman taustaa.

Koska tampereella ei oikein ole sopivia gallerioita eikä tonne Husaankaan nyt näyttelyä saa ihan vaan ilmottamalla, niin aloin etsimään viime vuoden lopussa itselleni jotain väliaikaiseksi galleriaksi sopivaa tilaa. Ne muutamat galleriat Tampereella missä voisi kuvitella näyttelyn pitävänsä tietenkin maksaa (esim. Rajatila), eikä mulla tietenkään ole semmosia rahoja.

Aloin siis soittelemaan ympäriinsä ja kyselemään josko jostain keskusta-alueelta löytyisi vaikkapa tyhjää liikehuoneistoa jonka voisi saada kuukaudeksi käyttöön. Yllättäen Skanska ilmoitti omistavansa vanhan veturihallin keskustasta ja ilmoitti että voisi halutessani sponsoroida tilan minulle. Veturihalli oli ISO, 1000 m2, ränsistynyt ja vanha - kokolailla päräyttävä ja täydellinen siis.

Rupesin kelailemaan että varmaan muitakin voisi kiinnostaa tehdä tilassa jotain ja aloin ottamaan yhteyttä taiteilijoihin joiden meiningistä pidän, ideana kuitenkin tuoda esille nuorempaa jengiä (olenhan itsekin vielä taidemaailmaiässä ala-asteella). Oikeastaan kaikki johon otin yhteyttä innostuivat hommasta ja jotkut myös ehdottelivat muita taiteilijoita. Lisäksi nettisivuilla oli avoin haku näyttelyyn. Siitä sitten nivoutui yhteisnäyttelyn porukka.

Kelana oli myös että tilaa voisi käyttää lisäksi erilaisten tapahtumien pitopaikkana. Sekin onnistui ihan hyvin, tilassa on ollut (ja on vielä ensi viikonloppuna) erilaista meininkiä. Eilen oli perfo!-klubi jossa oli jokseenkin psykedeelisiä esityksiä, mutta voisin ehkä kirjottaa tosta performanssien oudosta maailmasta jutun erikseen jos jaksan. Siis se meininkihän on ihan kuin ois astunut sisälle Twin Peaksin-unikohtaukseen tai jotain, toudella hämärää ja epätodellista. Itse avajaiset meni muuten tosi hyvin vaikka paikalla kävikin kytät kolmen partion voimalla - pala keskustelua for your amusement:

- "siis mikä tää meininki täällä on, mitkäs bileet tääl on hä?"
- "meil on näyttelyn avajaiset"
- "älä viitti, minkä ihme näyttelyn ku musa soi kovaa ja hirveesti ihmisiä pyörii täällä ja aiheuttaa häiriötä"
- "no siis taidenäyttelyn avajaiset"
- "ai mitä onks teil jotain tauluja tääl vai?"

Kyllä, meillä oli siellä jotain tauluja. Ja sen lisäks aika paljon kaikkee muuta, n. 400 avajaisvierasta ja pirun hyvät bileet. Kiitos kaikille osallistuneille! (järjestysluvan rikkomisesta kirjotettua sakkoa odotellessa, toiv. ei tuu, mut kokemuksesta voin sanoo että yleensä tulee. Mut se on sen ajan murhe se).

Kaikista hulluin ja vaikein osuus tässä hommassa on varmaankin ollut tuottaminen. Massin ja sponsorien hoitaminen, kaikenlainen yleinen säätö ja jokaisen mahdollisen yksityiskohdan hoitaminen ja muistaminen. En es haluu kuvitella niitä työtunteja jota tohon hommaan on menny. Tietty ilmaseksi (tai itseasiassa tätä kirjoitettaessa tuotantuki ei ole vielä mennyt maksuun, joten teknisesti tässä ollaan satoja euroja miinuksella). Mut on ollut ehdottomasti kaiken vaivan arvosta, loistoposse ollut mukana tekemässä ja kylhän me tehtiin aika huolella päräyttävä kokonaisuus, big up yourselves!!

Jos et vielä ole käynyt kattomassa näyttelyä niin mene nyt ihmeessä ennen kuin on liian myöhäistä. Uskallan sanoa että tää on aika ainutlaatuinen juttu Suomessa. For those who don’t know the history of this project, here’s some background.

Since there are none really applicable galleries in Tampere, and you can’t exactly walk in to Husa’s gallery and tell him you want to make an exhibition, I started to seek for some space that I could transform into a temporary gallery. This was in the end of -08. Those few galleries in Tampere where one could imagine of making a show (such as Rajatila) naturally cost money, which naturally I don’t have.

So I started to ask around if there would be some space, maybe an empty office or something, which I could get access for a month or so. For my amazement Skanska told me that they own an old train hall in center, and if I wanted, it would be possible that they would sponsor me the space. The hall is HUGE, 1000 m2, declined and old – in other words pretty much perfect.

I started to think that most likely some other people would be interested in making something into the space and started connecting artists whose work I like, with the idea of bringing out some of the younger generation (hey, art world age wise I’m still in the elementary school myself so…). Pretty much everyone I contacted got stoked and some also proposed some other artists as well. There was also a possibility to apply in the webpage, so this is how the group for the exhibition formed.

I also had an idea that the space could be used for different kinds of happenings. That worked out well also, there’s been (and will be also in next weekend) different kind of action. Yesterday the hall hosted Perfo!-club that had some very bizarre performances, but I was thinking that I’ll write about the weird world of performance art a different time (if I can kick myself into it). But the action going on in these evenings / clubs is just like walking into a dream sequence of Twin Peaks or something, truly unreal and bizarre. The actual opening party of the exhibition went really well btw, even though the cops came harass us with three (yea, three ha-ha) patrolcars.
In any case, there were around 400 guests in the opening and a pretty solid party going on, thanks to everyone involved! (now I’m just waiting for the ticket from the coppers, hopefully I wont get one, but as experience has thought, I probably will.)

The most difficult and craziest thing about this whole process has definitely been producing. Getting that money and sponsors, all kinds of general shit and trying to remember every little detail ever. I don’t even want to think about those hours I’ve put into this. And free of course (well actually at this moment the sponsor money I had haven’t been paid yet, so technically I’m down hundreds of Euros and flat broke). But it’s been definitely worth of all the efforts, we had a great crew making this and we made pretty fucking solid thing here, so big up yourselves!!

The exhibition will be open until the end of April, Wednesday – Sunday, 13.00 – 18.00. In Sunday 26th there will be a screening of documentaries and short films. If you’ve yet not seen the exhibition, go before it’s too late. I can promise that this is something extraordinary in Finland. Thanks to everyone involved!

Mä heräsin myöhässä, niinku yleensä. Päätin vetää kuitenkin viel kahvit naamaan enneku lähtisin talsii kohti metroo. Onneks on liukuva työaika, vaik sama se ois vaik töihin menis vast kahelttoist, ei siel kuitenkaan mitään tapahdu sitä ennen. Ei mulle ainakaan. Sen takii en oo varmaan tehnytkään oikeit töitäkään pariin vuoteen. Kun olin saanut ne sumpit juotuu niin lähin liikkeelle. Siin kurvin metron portais tuli joku todella randomin näkönen nide kauppaamaan mulle lääkkeitä, ja jos jotain voin rehellisesti sanoo, niin sen et mä en kyl todellakaan oo sen näkönen jäbä joka poistaa jotain lääkkeit piritorilta kybält aamulla. Mut oli kyl pakko nauraa mielessään että onpas Helsingistä tullut kansainvälinen, ainoo vaan et muualla kaupataan jotain muut ku Xanoreit. Tai mitä vitun nappeja se nyt myikään.

Tuntuu muuten et noit ois tullu lisää viimeaikoina, nidejä siis. Osa-aikaiset käyttäjät pamahti jo aikoi sitten, mut just noita täyspäiväsii duunareita. Ja ne on kansoittanu kurvin. Aina kun mä näen tommosen tyypin niin mä niin toivon et se rakastuis tai jotain. Koska aina on toivoo. Sitä ei vaan aina näe niin selkeesti tässä meidän maailmassa. Mut kyl sitä on. Ongelma on vaan siinä et kaikki on aina tapahtumassa huomenna tai ainakin futuurissa, niiku se mun röökinpolton lopettaminen ja se sun lenkillä käynti. Koskakohan ollaan perillä?

Me ihmiset ollaan vaan niin laiskoi, mukavuudenhalusii ja helppoutta kaipaavii eläimii. Suorastaan vittumaisii otuksia. Itteensä on kuitenkin helpoin huijaa, eikä aina es tarvii. Kyl mäkin tiedän et se thaikkulan kana on ihan vitun epäeettistä, mut se nyt vaan on myös niin helvetin hyvää. Ei ne ongelmat paljon paina siinä vaiheessa kun se curry sulaa suussa. Taiku lento laskeutuu johonki mis drinkit kaadetaan kookokseen. Paljoo sillon maailman tilat tosiaankaan ketään kiinnosta. Se on vaan siistii ku kaikki on niin halpaa. Ei sitä usein kelaa et miks? Ja kuka sen meidänkin jetsettailunkin oikeesti maksaa? Ennen pelkästään jotku suihkuseurapiirit pysty tolleen lentelee, nykyään kuka vaan meist voi mennä nettiin nak-nak ja viidelkybäl Lontooseen. Nettii vastaan mul ei kyl oo mitään. Se on ihan himmee juttu, suurinta mitä on tapahtunu vuosisatoihin. Mä oon sitä ekaa sukupolvee netti- ja kännykkälapsia. Pelottaa ajatella et mis mennään sillon ku mä oon vanha, toivottavasti ei oo ihan niin kujalla kaikest tekniikast ku mun vanhemmat on nyt.

Tiesittekste muuten et harakka on älykkäin lintu. Kelatkaa, harakka, kaikista linnuista! Ei mikään pöllö tai kotka vaan harakka. Ei kyl mikään ylläri toisaalta, semmosii me ihmisetki ollaan, aina jonkun kiiltävän peräs mitä ei es oikeesti tarvita.
Mut aina on toivoo, mullakin. Sitä pitää vaan yrittää parhaansa, koittaa pistää hyvää eteenpäin ja tehdä jotain mikä antaa täyttymystä.

Taide on mulle se juttu. Joskus tuntuu siltä etten tuu ikinä rakastamaan ketään ihmistä niin paljon kun omia luomisiani. Se on hyvä tapa purkaa näkemiään ja kokemiaan asioita. Näyttää asioita ja kertoo tarinoita. Ja niitähän riittää. Oon elämäni aikana nähny niin ihmeellisiä ääripäitä ja äpäröitä, et joskus on joutunu ihan nipistämään itteensä. Oon nähny mitä on äärimmäinen rikkaus ja mitä on rutiköyhyys ja sen kuinka rakkaus kääntyy vihan kautta silmittömäksi raivoksi, senkin oon nähny. Ja kokenut kaikenlaista. Maistanut suolaa ja nektaria.

Luulen et mun kehityskaari ei oo menny ihan keskiarvojen mukaan, mut ei siit sen enempää, ei tää mikään elämäntarina kuitenkaan oo. Mut jokatapaukses kaikki noi asiat sit päätyy mun töihin, lähinnä maalauksiin, mutta valitsen formaatin kyllä aina idean perusteella, enkä yritä pakottaa kaikkia ideoita kankaalle. Teen asioita usein sarjoittain, sit ku joku juttu on kaluttu loppuun niin siirryn seuraavaan. Vähän niinku suhteet. Ei ne entiset enää jälkeenpäin usein tunnu niin hyvilt. Joskus niit jopa vihaa. Mut pitää koittaa pysyy liikkeessä, ei se määränpää vaan se matka, tiättekste?
